Long Term Portable Toilet Rentals For Construction Projects - What You Absolutely Need to Know
By Ryan Wentworth
When your construction site needs portable toilet services, you won't want any surprises. You expect to have reliable, comfortable units available to you. With a little advance planning, you can make sure that you'll have the services you need at the price you expect.
When discussing portable toilet options with your potential vendors, keep in mind three key principles: Location, Duration, and Access.
Location
It seems obvious, but you'll need to know what address the portable toilet should be delivered to. Furthermore, you'll need to specify where on your site you'd like the unit to be positioned. If the vendor will be delivering the unit, are they insured and bonded? You'll want to balance a convenient location with work site safety. Are the portable restrooms OSHA-approved? If you're constructing a high-rise building, consider a unit with optional lifting hooks that can be moved to upper floors. Remember, the goal is to keep the toilet close to the workers in order to keep them working, not hunting for facilities.
If you have a mobile office on site, you might consider a more spacious alternative like a unit with a flushing toilet with a built in sink with faucets and a powered ventilation fan.
Duration
How far in advance will you need to reserve the unit? You'll need to know what time of day your vendor can drop off the unit(s). How long will you need it? How often will the vendor agree to perform field service on the unit? What happens if you need service more often? Will it include toilet paper? How many rolls? Will it include hand sanitizer? Tissue seat covers? Are there discounts for a monthly or quarterly agreement? What types of insurance will you need to have in case of damage? Will your vendor provide an optional damage waiver for a reasonable fee?
Access
How many people will be on your site? Typical recommendations are to consider one toilet per 10 workers for a 40-hour work week. Should you consider more than one unit? Do you need to have ADA accessible portable toilets that are wheelchair and handicap accessible? What are your local regulations pertaining to portable toilets? Your local city ordinances will detail the requirements of a portable toilet at a construction site, and inspectors will insist that a portable toilet has been both ordered and installed or on its way before the inspection is approved.
